Department History & Evolution

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Government Polytechnic, Ayodhya was established in 1984 under the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Commencing with a foundational intake of 30 diploma scholars, the department’s mandate has centered on providing affordable, premier polytechnic education to the rural and semi-urban talent pool of the Awadh region.

Over four decades of dedicated service, the department has steadily evolved its pedagogical frameworks. What originated as classical workshop training in electromechanical armatures and analog circuits has transitioned into cutting-edge domains: renewable energy installations, substation telemetry, PLC/SCADA industrial controllers, and micro-grid architecture, aligned with contemporary national utility benchmarks.

1984 Foundation

Established with 30 intake under UP Technical Education, setting up basic electrical machine shops.

2006 Intake Surge

Expansion of sanctioned intake to 60 seats plus EWS and lateral entry allocations under AICTE approval.

2018 MODROBS

Laboratories modernized under World Bank & AICTE MODROBS scheme, inducting digital microprocessor trainers.

2023–Present Grid Tie-ups

Strategic live-apprenticeship MoU signed with UPPTCL 400kV Ayodhya Substation for high-voltage testing.
